“It’s Time to Come Out Our Cell”

“It’s Time to Come Out Our Cell”

As I was teaching the adult Sunday school class yesterday, we were discussing Paul’s letter sent to the people of Philippi while in prison (e.g. Philippians 1) where he was encouraging them to be bold in spreading the gospel no matter what.

This made me begin to think about the prisons and the cells we may be in emotionally or psychologically. We knew Paul was in a physical prison cell but I began to challenge my students, and myself, to assess if there is a cell we have created.

The bars of our cells are made of fear, anxiety, self-doubt, anger, unforgiving spirit…these are strong bars placed together over a period of time.

We may not realize how we have locked ourselves in and can’t move forward and the most powerful component is that we have the key…it’s in our hand.

If you feel trapped in the mindset of your circumstance, or lack the confidence of who you are in Christ, it’s time to come out. Release yourself! If that seems too hard, if you feel trapped, be bold enough to hand the key over to the Holy Spirit….He’s waiting to release you. It’s your time to truly be freed but He will not snatch the key – you must hand it over. Know that He will be with you as you step out of your cell.

Finally, I’ve discovered what’s most crucial is the destruction of the cell itself. Too often, we’ve come out of the cell but we left it standing. When fear begins to arise, when confidence begins to be weary, we go back into the cell…sometimes we run back. I say, destroy the cell, take every bar down, break each piece, profess that it is no longer useable!! Profess that we will not allow that cell to be recreated or any new cell to rise.
It’s time to be free!

“Your story is the key that can
unlock someone else’s prison, share
your testimony.”

  1. Hey Auntie,

    Thanks for sharing.
This is a short version of the response I lost just lost. Yeah I laugh too (“Short Uh”)

Yes, I must agree, yesterday our Sunday school lesson was for me a worship experience in itself. All we had to do is give the benediction.
Be that as it may, I can relate to your posting. I’m not just a member, I am a client.”
Too often as much as I preach, and encourage on a daily basis, fear of negative feedback makes me back down or off. Even constructive criticism. Or lack of support makes me 2nd guess myself, am I doing the right thing, what could I do differently? Now, self-examination is never a bad thing, but one (Me) can abuse themselves from the inside/out. Then its God, why can’t they hear you speaking to me first, not God what do you see?
Then there is the fear of conflict this is the one that imprisons me the most. I comfortably try to expand other methods to reach the lost ex: (FB, Instagram, emails etc..) And here is the kicker while in my cell not only has God convicted me of taking the easy way out, I resentfully look through my cell bars knowing in my heart of heart there is more, so much more to this, whatever this is according to God’s ultimate plan.

Nonetheless, I came in this year with a sense of boldness and the determination to take one bold step at a time. Not misinformed or impulsive steps. But one that is guided by the Holy Spirit. One that will no doubt bring God all the glory from those including my self watching how it all turns out in Jesus name.

Thanks again for being obedient as always,
    Much Love,
    Your Niecy
