Homemade Hummus

Homemade Hummus

Well, here’s my first food post. Anyone that knows me knows I love to cook and I particularly like to try new things, especially if the presentation is pretty.  I love to watch the FOOD channel and yesterday the Pioneer Woman caught my attention in making what she called a ‘Heavenly Hummus Wrap”.

Now, know that hummus is not the most exciting thing to me however I’ve never made my own so I ventured forth. Well, I must say it was quite tasty and as usual it’s something about homemade that always makes it better.

The ingredients were chickpeas, tahini paste, cumin, lemon, garlic and a little water. I learned my first lesson of what NOT to do next time I attempt to make homemade hummus and that is to not use an emulsifier. It’s best to use a food processor or blender. To be honest, I simply didn’t want to clean up the food processor – anyway, I had to laugh as my poor emulsifier attempted to blend four cans of chickpeas. I was a daunting process.

However, when all things finally came together, I was pleasantly surprised at the taste. It was really good. The actual wrap was made out of a toasted spinach tortilla, spread with the hummus, with toasted red peppers, salad greens, topped with feta cheese. If there are any vegetarians in the house this would be great.
This is why I continually love to try new things….we never know unless we venture out.

  1. I purchased chickpeas with the intention of making hummus. I never took the time to make it. My son told me it is delicious when it is homemade so I was going to go for it. Now that I see you made it and it looks so yummy as well as simple , I am inspired to make this dish. Wish me luck. Thanks for sharing ☺.

    1. You are welcome….I just had another wrap 🙂 Who knew homemade hummus would be so good. I’m actually using it also as a dip with carrots. Again, who knew…..
