“Don’t Let Luggage Become Baggage”
This is an important thought of clarity to know when things we may have first carried as luggage have now become baggage.
What does this mean? Well, let’s first think about luggage and its usage. Luggage is what is needed when we are going away somewhere. We use it to pack what is needed for wherever we are going; we unpack things at our destination, repack it to return home, and unpack it when we arrive at home. Ironically, most of a luggage’s usage is that it remains empty.
Let’s bring this into our thinking and emotional state – there may be times that our ‘travel’ or ‘experiences’ in certain situations is completed but the luggage doesn’t get unpacked. It was placed in the corner of our mind with the distance thought that we’ll get to it later; but this later never comes. What starts as one unpacked luggage become two or three pieces as time moves forward. You know it’s not something you want to travel with – it’s no longer luggage it has become baggage. It now has unique names tags on it that say; “mistakes”, “bad decisions”, “guilt”, and “insecurities”.
The saddest transition is that it no longer believes it can be used to travel to a place of hope, a new perspective, or new opportunity. It attaches itself to our thinking and creates an imagery of a heavy piece that cannot be moved.
However, brothers and sisters, it’s time to throw out the baggage and ask the LORD to supply you with an afresh set of luggage. His luggage to you will be designer luggage because it will be made for exactly which trips He has for you. Some will be overnight and some will be long ventures but do not worry; He has packed in each luggage exactly what you need, and when you arrived at His destination for you; make sure you grab the luggage that has your name on it…. don’t try to grab someone else’s – it will be too light or too heavy -it’s simply not designed for you!
We know that life is indeed a journey – make sure you’re traveling with luggage and not baggage.
